Who Is Behind Joe’s Abduction?
The trail leads Joe’s team to Dmitri Sokolov, a Russian national and former lobbyist for Russian energy interests who now works at CSIS. Surveillance catches Sokolov meeting the man Joe recognizes as her abductor. Kyle orders the team to engage rather than tail him, triggering a restaurant shootout. An allied woman is killed, Randy is wounded and Tex goes into surgery. The public story blames ICE, leaving Kyle to answer.
Joe travels with Aleksi Yurimov to Guantánamo to learn who ordered the attack. The false-flag theory collapses: the men who came for Joe were Russian contract agents from Belarus, and the handoff involved Farsi-speaking men. Yurimov describes Iran as a state that works through criminals, layers and revenge. That points toward an Iranian connection, but it does not identify whoever commissioned the kidnapping.
What the Interrogation Reveals
A captured contractor supplies the structure. Sokolov brokers illicit deals; a Russian contractor named Renat offered the Virginia capture job for $250,000 per man. The plan was to move Joe to Houston and hand her to Kata’ib Sayyid ul-Shuhada (KSS), a group Iran uses in Syria and, he guesses, here. Renat hired the team, but the contractor does not know who hired KSS. Joe offers him a new identity; he remains in custody while his story is checked.
The team learns that Ukraine was not involved, so the kidnapping was not the false flag they feared. KSS works through layers rather than directly with Iran, leaving the motive for the promised revenge unknown. Randy is recovering, Tex is out of surgery, Yurimov is returned to his embassy, and Joe is ordered home. Kyle is told to clean up the diplomatic damage by taking on a mission in Mali against the Tuareg rebellion.
Home is not safety. After Joe tells Bobby that nobody is left to come after her, he replies that there is always somebody. The final scene shows unidentified planners discussing another attempt to take “her”: getting to the target is easy, but getting her out would lure the others into the open. The subtitles never identify the target or speakers, so the threat and the revenge-seeker remain open. Joe survives, but the conspiracy has only been mapped—not finished.
